Advice for Incorporating Pets into Your Wedding Photos

A house just wouldn’t be a home without your trusted pet. Those big eyes, filled with complete adoration for you, and their sweet and cuddly demeanor, your home just wouldn’t be the same without them. They are part of your family, and with your wedding day approaching, surely you will want them there for such an important event. After all, all your closest loved ones will be present, so why shouldn’t your pet?

It can be tricky to give your pet a role in your big day, and even trickier to capture them within your wedding photos. But, no matter what, you will still love the role they will play in your wedding and your photos.

Here at Joseph Hummel Photography, we believe that pets make a great addition to your family, and can make a great addition to your wedding day as well. That’s why we have put together a bit of advice for incorporating pets into your own wedding photos. To learn how you can see that happy, furry grin within your wedding album, feel free to continue reading:

  • Keep the Distractions to a Minimum. There is no doubt that your wedding day will be filled with many new people and things that your pet will encounter. New smells, a new area, new family members that your pet has never met, these can all be very distracting. But, it’s still important to ensure that you keep the distractions to a minimum. If your pet becomes too distracted, it will be much more of a hassle to get them to sit still for photos, or for their walk down the aisle. It would be ideal to do a rehearsal with them before the big day, as well as bring them around groups of people so that they are comfortable in exciting environments.

  • Draw Their Attention. After you limit distractions around you, it’s time to draw their attention to the camera. Bringing their favorite toy or treat gives you the perfect item to capture their attention. When their attention is captured, your photographer can capture their photograph. Training your pet to sit before the big day is a great way to ensure that they will be all set for their photo session.

  • Bring Along a Helper. Is there someone that your pet thoroughly enjoys? If you have a loved one who is really good with your pet, it’s a good idea to bring them along when it’s time to capture photos with your furry friend. Not only will it be extremely helpful before and after photos, but they can deal with any new distractions and help your pup focus for the camera.

With your pet being such an important part of your family, you certainly don’t want to leave them behind on such a special day. With these tips, you can ensure that your wedding day photos are captured with ease.
